My family and I just moved to the lovely Bend, Oregon after years of drooling over it! Honestly, it’s better than we had ever imagined! We owned a successful dog training, enrichment and boarding service In New York for 7 years and before that, I hiked dogs in San Francisco and Los Angeles for 12 years all under my same name, City Strut. (Since I started out leash walking packs in Downtown LA). I’ve been a certified dog trainer and behavior consultant since 2008 with Ccpdt. I wrote a book about leash walking in urban areas and have otherwise only known and had a passion for dog handling most of my adult life. This year celebrates 20 years of City Strut!
In Bend, I’m opening up to my hearts calling which is so corny yet so badly needed. These are what I’m calling Dog Circles. These are small group dog discussions about kids and k9s, dog diet, grief, adolescent dogs and more…My aim is to make an accessible space where people who truly need support can get it from not just me, but from our community. When we share questions, we all learn more.
I will also be offering hikes on a limited basis because it is my happy place and because I have a human toddler or two that run me ragged.
After all these years of training and leash walking it’s clear to me that dog hiking—off leash—seems to resolve attention seeking behaviors more than anything. It makes sense of course but most people think their dog needs training when what they really need is a space to cut loose and be a dog! Turns out it makes training easier too! Like giving kids recess so they can actually focus on algebra. Balance is key and even though I’ve been a trainer for a million years, I see the most behavior shifts when dogs get regular cardio with their puppy friends. Fresh air and wookie zoomies are magic for creating calm dogs in our human homes.
I understand that every dog and household are unique and require individualized training. That's why we offer customized training programs that are tailored to meet your dog's specific needs and your family’s goals.
I sit with you, offer a space to reflect whats happening for you and your dog behavior, look at your goals and devise a plan to achieve them.
My approach is wholistic and realistic
